I want help in PHP....

Hi,
I have been playing around making websites with php, and i want to create a mysql database. Ive got a book that tells me how to do it but it doesnt actually tell me how to connect to my server. Iv registered web space that allows mysql databases, but how to I connect to it through a command prompt on my windows machine? Is there any software I have to install? Thanks for any help.
